Charlotte Harbor Youth Sailing (CHYS) began in 2008 as a youth sailing program for members of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club. In an effort to introduce sailing to youth outside of the Yacht Club membership, CHYS, Inc. was established several years later as  a separate 501(c)(3) Non Profit School in 2010 and was opened to any youth age 8 years and up.

Charlotte Harbor Youth Sailing is located on the grounds of the beautiful Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club at 4400 Lister Street. Port Charlotte, FL 33952. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) defines the relationship between these two separate orgainzations.

The Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club sits on picturesque Charlotte Harbor, one of the top 10 sailing destinations in the United States. Charlotte Harbor water depth and usually gentle winds make it the perfect place to teach sailing.
